ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE

The library is delighted with the beautiful heritage building which will be its new home.

The Second Empire style building that will house the new Public Library was designed by Halifax architect, Henry Frederick Busch. Opening as The Normal College in 1878, the facility, and a handful of others like it in other provinces, pioneered teacher education and the concept that one must also know “how” to teach.

A Historical Collections Room in the new library will showcase photos and items from the original interior of the building, as well as, a collection of books highlighting the region’s social, civic, religious, economic, and cultural life, both past and present. The purpose of the Historical Collection is to serve the community through the acquisition and preservation of material contributing to the knowledge of our region.

We hope you will share our excitement about the library’s new home and give us your support in any way you can contribute. Thanks!
